Seachdain na Gàidhlig / Gaelic Week
Comunn Eachdraidh Bheàrnaraigh / Berneray Historical Society are taking part in Seachdain na Gàidhlig for the first time.
We want to build links between fluent Gaelic speakers in Berneray and people who are already learning Gaelic or want to begin learning. This could be the start of an ongoing project to build the confidence of learners and increase the use of Gaelic in the community.
The plan is for two Gaelic lessons followed by a Gaelic Coffee Morning. There will be two one hour Gaelic lessons in the Nurse's Cottage on Tuesday 25th and Friday 28th February from 11am to 12 noon each day. The lessons will be free and will be taken by Archie Campbell, an experienced teacher. They will be suitable for beginners as well as other learners and will focus on simple communication that will enable learners to participate in the Gaelic Coffee Morning.
On Saturday 1st March between 10.30 and noon there will be a Coffee Morning in the Nurse's Cottage for learners and fluent speakers. The Coffee Morning will use Gaelic. We hope this will be an enjoyable occasion which will encourage learners and fluent speakers to use Gaelic socially in everyday life.
If the lessons and coffee morning are well received we could plan more lessons and similar events including evening lessons suitable for those who cannot come during the working day.
If you would like to come to the lessons, please register with Domhnall Beag MacLean (07786 306745) by text or phone or go to [email protected]
